The following is the opinion and analysis of the writer:
Prop 201 was a voter initiative that called for removal of the red-light cameras. Some say it banned them. I don’t know about that. I would have to call up the text to see. However, if a law becomes a danger to the public, law makers can repeal it. Red light runners have become a danger to the public. Every day I see in the news there has been an accident caused by a red-light runner. How many cars must be damaged? How many people need to be injured or killed before you say enough?
I have been involved in 2 near misses because of red-light runners. One of them, I was stopped at a red light on my motorcycle when a jerk blew by me in my lane nearly hitting me just so he could run that light. I’m sure that every day more people victimized by these runners are wondering when law enforcement is going to do something to at least slow this trend down.

Law enforcement needs to witness the incident and issue the citation at the time it occurred, is also being said. On that note, I have seen cops on multiple occasions stopped at a red light in front of the line waiting for the green light. The light turns green and zip, a runner burns through the intersection in front of the cops and they did nothing!
As far as I can see, the people who don’t want the cameras back don’t have any regard for public safety. They just don’t seem to care how many people are injured or killed because some nut job doesn’t to be inconvenienced by waiting for the light to change. The police, also, do not seem to be willing, or able, to anything about it either.
If things do not change soon, it’s only going to get worse because I don’t see it getting any better. More accidents, more injuries, and more deaths appear to be in our future. All of this can be avoided.
If anyone has any ideas on how to make things better, I wish you would speak up soon. My guess is there could be one or more families in mourning because of a loss of a loved one between now and Christmas because of a red-light runner. That would be a very bad memory for this time of year, but some people just don’t care. I do care.
