Arizona Game and Fish (AZGF) commission is historically controlled by trophy hunting interests, a tiny minority of the public but one that is allowed to enormously damage delicately balanced wildlife populations. Hunting big predators with dogs is well known for senseless brutality, often harming other species in the chase, and generally recognized as a barbaric relic.
AZGF commission members should represent wildlife as a public trust with career wildlife biologists instead of narrow special interests. The commission’s recent decision was predictable given their alignment with trophy clubs like Safari Club International who defend inhumane hunting practices and lobby against protections for vulnerable species.
