Mel Potter, a Tucson High and UA grad who was elected to the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2022, died Saturday in Tucson. He was 90.
Potter is the father of four-time world championship barrel racer Sherry Cervi of Marana High School.
In 2015, the PRCA named Potter its Legend of the Rodeo for the year.
He was also one of the leading stock producers for pro rodeo the last 50 years. He won his first PRCA championship in 1962, the tie-down roping title, at the famous Calgary Stampede. Potter competed on the pro rodeo circuit as recently as 2010, when he was 75.
A funeral service for Potter will be held Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Marana, 13555 N. Lon Adams Road, at 11 a.m.
