An anonymous donor has pledged $1 million to the Arizona baseball program, one day after the Wildcats fell 4-3 to Coastal Carolina in the College World Series championship game.Â
The donation is part of a matching gift exchange, meaning the donor will match up to $1 million raised by the The Wildcat Club. The Wildcat Club has already begun taking contributions . The money will be earmarked for the baseball program, specifically for renovations to Hi Corbett Field, fan amenities and what the UA calls "other improvements for student-athletes."
Coach Jay Johnson called the gift "a major difference-maker for our program."
“It reaffirms to me how great it is to coach at Arizona where people care so much about our program and especially the student-athletes,†he said.Â
